About 30 km west of Médenine, Beni Khedache sits in the Dahar mountains between the plain and the Grand Erg. The area is dotted with ksour and old granaries, and the town has a mosque built underground.

History: The Berber villages of the Dahar were built high to watch the plains and protect harvests.
Customs: The mountain road towards Ksar Hadada and Ghomrassen is one of the most beautiful in the south.
Food: Olive oil and dried figs from the terraces.
Best time: October to April.

The underground mosque was dug into the rock to stay cool in summer and warm in winter.
