Six kilometres west of Enfidha, Takrouna sits on a rocky outcrop about 200 m above the plain. A few families still live among its stone houses, and the view stretches over olive groves to the sea and towards Zaghouan.
- History
- The village is of Berber origin. A French military cemetery from the 1943 battles lies nearby.
- Customs
- People live here: ask before photographing houses or residents. Women of the village weave esparto grass and Berber rugs.
- Food
- A mint tea on the café terrace at the top, facing the plain.
- Best time
- Spring and autumn, at sunset.
Heavy fighting took place around the rock in 1943, during the Tunisian campaign of the Second World War.
