One of the oldest campsites in the south, on the edge of the Douz palm grove, a few minutes from the town centre. Pitches for tents, vans and motorhomes under the palms, and the dunes of the Great Erg start just behind.

History
Douz grew around its palm grove as a meeting point for the nomadic Mrazig.
Customs
Call ahead to check opening and prices. Desert outings by camel or 4x4 leave from Douz.
Food
Try the sand-baked bread, "khobz mella", in town.
Best time
October to April. Nights are cold in winter.
Douz hosts the Sahara Festival every winter, with camel races and Bedouin poetry.
