Chenini, about half an hour from Tataouine, is a fortified granary village (ksar) built between two hilltop ridges, with its oldest parts dating from the 12th century. About 500 Berber farmers and herders live here, many in cave dwellings carved into the rock. Its mosque is linked to the legend of the Seven Sleepers, and scenes of the Star Wars films were shot in the area.
- History
