Amazigh families have lived for centuries in troglodyte homes: rooms carved around a deep circular courtyard, cool in summer and warm in winter.
- History
- The pit homes protected the Amazigh people from raids and from the extreme climate.
- Customs
- Some families open their homes to visitors. A small tip is expected.
- Food
- Try "kesra", a flat semolina bread baked on the clay "tajine".
- Best time
- October to April.
The Hotel Sidi Driss, a troglodyte house, played Luke Skywalker's childhood home in "Star Wars". You can still sleep there.
