At nearly 1,000 m, Kesra clings to a cliff edge above the plain, near Makthar. Stone houses, springs and small waterfalls run down the slope, and the forest of Jebel Serj is close by.
- History
- In Roman times the village was Cusira, a small town of the province of Byzacena.
- Customs
- A quiet village: walk up through the old lanes to the springs, and greet people you pass.
- Food
- Try the local bread and figs, and the fresh spring water.
- Best time
- Spring and early summer, when the springs are full. Winters are cold.
Kesra is also the name of the semolina flatbread baked across North Africa.
